Vive La Revolution! Teckro Team Laces up Our Shoes for the Clearity Foundation’s Teal Revolution 2021
On Saturday May 22, Teckro sponsored and took part in The Clearity Foundation’s Teal Revolution – a virtual 5k to raise funds to support the fight against ovarian cancer.
Our team spanned several countries across two continents, including England, France, Ireland, Spain and the US. There were 18 of us in total, with our adventurous team running, walking, biking and even golfing the 5k in varying weather conditions.
Talking about a Revolution
The Clearity Foundation raised an impressive $154,141 from this year’s event. This is the second year of the Teal Revolution to raise funds for life-affirming programs and services to help spark a "revolution" to fight ovarian cancer.
And nothing short of a revolution is needed. Ovarian cancer is one of the most challenging diseases because early detection is so difficult. The chance of survival typically depends on when the cancer is discovered, which is why early diagnosis is so important.
The problem is that many of the symptoms are “hidden.” This makes detection difficult, because many of these symptoms could apply to a variety of other conditions. In fact, a recent study shows that many women don’t even realize bloating is a key symptom of ovarian cancer.
The good news is that if the cancer is discovered early, before it spreads outside the ovary, the five-year survival rate jumps from 47% to 92%. But the problem is that just 15% of all ovarian cancers are discovered this early, according to the American Cancer Society.
This is why Teckro believes that there needs to be a global push to raise more awareness of ovarian cancer by governments, the medical profession and wider society. We are proud to sponsor organizations such as the Clearity Foundation and World Ovarian Cancer Coalition and their fantastic work to both raise awareness and support women and their families.
Consider the pink ribbon as the international symbol of breast cancer awareness. It has been around since 1992 and has become highly recognizable as a symbol for breast cancer supporters and survivors. Today, millions of people around the world take part in Breast Cancer Awareness Month each October, wearing their pink ribbons to support the cause.
A global campaign on par with the pink ribbon campaign will help increase awareness of the importance of vigilance when it comes to early symptoms of ovarian cancer so more women can understand how to spot the signs and take action to visit their doctor sooner rather than later.
